Dr Paul Hayes is a Senior Counselling Psychologist, a chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland, and works with the Health Service Executive in adult mental health. He first undertook psychology undergraduate studies more than 25 years ago in University College Dublin.

Paul developed an interest in evidence-based person-centred models of treatment after completing a Master’s in Addiction Studies in 2004 and worked for several years in a residential addiction treatment setting specifically designed with this ethos at its core. He gained an Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI) accreditation and became a Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) before pursuing the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at Trinity College Dublin in 2009.

Paul’s work brought him to a variety of well-known residential addiction treatment settings, where he worked for 10 years. He has also worked in primary care psychology, inpatient mental health settings, early intervention teams, CAMHS, and psycho-oncology before taking up his current role implementing the Talking Therapies Model of Care with the HSE. Although primarily regarding himself as a practitioner, Paul enjoys the diversity that a career in counselling allows, including assessment, managing, supervising, research, and training early career counsellors and psychotherapists.  Dr Hayes was delighted to join PCI College in 2017, where his role has included lecturing and research supervision. He is current Programme Leader for the MSc. in Addiction Counselling and Psychotherapy.
