CORU Registration Announcement
PCI College welcomes the announcement by the Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD. to appoint the thirteen members of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Registration Board, under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005.
The purpose of the Board is to safeguard the profession of counselling and psychotherapy by introducing two professional Registers for the purpose of statutory regulation. It is the aim of the Board to operate within standards of best practice and competence across the profession. The Board will also advise the Minister on the protection of professional titles.
CORU (The Health and Social Care Professionals Council) is currently in the process of convening the Board for their first meeting, during which, the work of structuring the Registers will begin. Once complete, there will be a period allocated for practitioners to register. The process is envisaged to take a minimum of two years to complete.
PCI College commends the continued collaborative approach of the IACP to work with the Registration Board as our profession moves towards statutory regulation and we look forward to supporting the IACP in their efforts to do so.
PCI College welcomes the changes to come within the field of counselling and psychotherapy that statutory regulation will bring.
