Addiction Counselling Upgrade Programme for Qualified Counsellors / Psychotherapists
For Counsellors who want to gain IAAAC accreditation
- Accreditation: Our two year part-time Diploma in Addiction Counselling meets the criteria of the Irish Association of Alcohol and Addiction Counsellors.
Currently, a recognised Diploma is the academic requirement for working towards accreditation, but this standard may rise at some stage in the future. PCI College provide BSc (Hons) Degree Programmes, validated by Middlesex University, for those students (including Diploma graduates from other Counselling and Psychotherapy training institutes) who wish to add to their qualifications.

- Duration: Two year Programme on alternate weekends.
- Award: Middlesex University BSc (Hons) in Addiction Counselling
- Tuition Fees: Please download the application form for details of fees and application process. In order to facilitate students, PCI College introduced a Payment Plan. The course can be paid in 3 fixed payments due in September, November & February. There is no extra charge for this option.
- Specific Entry Requirements: Applicants need to have successfully completed a foundation course in counselling skills or equivalent e.g. in-service training with a substantial counselling element and a diploma with counselling and psychotherapy at its core. Entry is by application form and interview.
- Who should apply: For those counsellors (including diploma graduates from other Counselling and Psychotherapy training institutes) who wish to add to their qualifications and / or those counsellors who want to gain IAAAC accreditation.
About the Course
Upgrade students enter the degree programme in year three. They will receive exemption from the general year one and year two modules but will need to complete the addiction module from year one. The course is Integrative and Evidence-based in approach, and includes Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other styles as well as focusing on skills training and various special issues. Each course module is accessed separately, usually by a written assignment. Client work is carried out in placement situations, which will be arranged in liaison with the college's Placement & Supervision co-ordinator.

At least 100 hours of work with clients
Attend 20 sessions with a qualified supervisor to review your client work
100 hours of personal therapy
