Application procedure: To ensure a place on the course of your choice, PCI College strongly recommends that you enrol early by completing an application form and returning it with a deposit of €250.This deposit is deductable from course fees if the application is successful. Should an application be unsuccessful or cancelled by the applicant, an admintration fee of €60 is charged and the balance of €190 is refunded.

Entry onto the course is through interview. Upon receipt of your application, PCI College will be in touch to organise a suitable time for your interview.   • Accreditation: Our four year part-time BSc (Hons) in Addiction Counselling is recognised by the IAAAC Irish Association of Alcohol and Addiction Counsellors.  

    PCI College provide BSc (Hons) Degree Programmes, validated by Middlesex University, for those students (including Diploma graduates from other Counselling and Psychotherapy training institutes) who wish to add to their qualifications and work towards accreditation.  
     
  • Venue: Dublin West

  • Duration: Four years, part-time. Every Second Weekend.

  • Award: Middlesex University BSc (Hons) in Addiction Counselling (IAAAC Recognised)

  • Tuition Fees: Please download the application form for details of fees and application process. In order to facilitate students, PCI College introduced a Payment Plan. The course can be paid in 3 fixed payments due in September, November & February. There is no extra charge for this option.

  • Specific Entry Requirements: Applicants must be over 23. Relevent experience is an advantage but not essential. Entry is by application form and interview.

  • Upgrade Option / Module Excemptions: Course comparison form available for those who already have substantial training & qualifications in the field.

 About the Course

The course is Integrative in approach, and includes Person-Centred, Humanistic, Cognitive-Behavioural, Psychodynamic, and other styles as well as focusing on skills training and various issues specific to addiction.  To facilitate the experiential and participative nature of the course class size is normally limited to 18 for most modules.  There are no formal written examinations.  Each course module is assessed separately, usually by a written assignment.  Client work is carried out in placement situations, which will be arranged in liaison with the college's Placement & Supervision Co-ordinator.

Who should consider our degree course?

This course is designed for people who wish to become professional addiction thearpists or have an opportunity to use counselling skills as part of their work (either in a paid or voluntary capacity) or simply want to broaden their qualifications. Many of our graduates enter the profession from diverse careers such as finance, engineering, and the wider world of business, as well as homemaking, nursing, teaching, and social work.  It is of particular interest to people who have found counselling to be helpful.

Award: PCI COLLEGE CERTIFICATE IN ADDICTION COUNSELLING

YEAR 2
      Humanistic & Cognitive-Behavioural Approaches
      Personal Development & Advanced Counselling Skills
      Universal Issues in Counselling: (Loss & Sexuality)
      Clinical Placement - Part 1

Additional Course Requirements:
      At least 100 hours of work with clients
      Attend 25 sessions with a qualified supervisor to review your client work
      50 hours of personal therapy

Award: PCI COLLEGE DIPLOMA IN ADDICTION COUNSELLING

(Need to continue to Degree for Professional Qualification)

      Family/Systemic Counselling: Theory & Skills
      Clinical Placement - Part 2
      Research Methods
      Personal & Professional Development

YEAR 4
      Clinical Placement - Case Study
      Proposition Essay
      Plus two of the following: Drug Abuse in Ireland ; Sexual Addictions ; Dual Diagnosis

Additional Course Requirements:
      At least 400 hours of work with clients (including hours completed for Diploma)
      Attend 100 sessions with a qualified supervisor to review your client work (including hours completed for Diploma)
      100 hours of personal therapy (including hours completed for Diploma)


Award: MIDDLESEX UNIVERSITY BSc (Hons) in ADDICTION COUNSELLING  (Level 8 NFQ)
