Advanced Diploma in Suicide Studies

For those who want to help those at risk and those affected by Suicide 

  • Venue: Dublin
  • Duration: 90 hour programme over seven weekends from October to January.

  • Award: PCI College ADV DIP IN SUICIDE STUDIES

  • Specific Entry Requirements: The course is designed for people who are currently offering or who intend to offer their services in the area of Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention. Entry is by application form.


About the Course

Participants will gain sufficient knowledge, skills strategies, and theoretical background to enable them to serve those who are at risk of taking their own lives, those who are survivors of suicide, and the family members of those who have taken their lives.

Course Content

Complete individual modules or combine to Adv Dip level.
  • Suicide Prevention - Two weekends in October
  • Suicide Intervention - Two weekends in November
  • Suicide Postvention - Two weekends in January
Attendance only award: PCI COLLEGE CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE

Learning Outcomes

It is envisaged that people who successfully complete the Advanced Diploma in Suicide Studies will:

  • To Know the facts about suicide and attempted suicide and deliberate self harm, and be able to distinguish between those facts and the myths that surround this way of ending or attempting to end one's own life.
  • Have the ability to identify the psychological, biological and environmental factors, combined with negative life experiences and exacerbating recent life events that increase the risk of suicidal tendencies.
  • Learn how to apply the key skills and strategies associated with the special types of preventative measures, interventions, and grieving processes associated with suicide in an effective and sensitive way.

Programme Leader

Josephine C. Murphy, one of the founders of PCI College,  came to practice of counselling and psychotherapy from her initial training as a nurse and midwife. Having read for the MA in Adult and Community Education at NUI Maynooth, she studied for the MSc in Family Counselling in La Rochelle, New York. Over the last 14 years Josephine has delivered many programmes in suicidology around the country. She currently maintains a counselling & supervision practice in Wexford.
